South Korea says it welcomes the DPRK's plan to dismantle its nuclear test site in the northeast. The DPRK has conducted six nuclear tests at the site since 2006. DPRK state news agency KCNA says the facility will be dismantled around May 23rd, depending on weather conditions. The DPRK has also invited journalists from China, South Korea, Russia, the US, and the UK to cover the event to ensure transparency.
South Korean officials said in April that the DPRK planned to invite experts to the shutdown, but the KCNA said the DPRK only invited journalists and did not mention experts. Our correspondent Jack Barton has more from Seoul.
