US President Donald Trump's nominee for FBI Director Christopher Wray said on Wednesday during a confirmation hearing held by the Senate Judiciary Committee that he will never ever allow the FBI's work to be driven by anything other than the facts.
Wray, a former Justice Department lawyer under President George W. Bush, was nominated by Trump to replace James Comey, who was fired in May amid a probe into potential ties between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.
Wray said that he will never allow the FBI's work to be driven by anything other than the facts, the law and the impartial pursuit of justice, adding that he would "lead an independent bureau that will make every American proud."
Wray added that he did not discuss Comey firing with anyone in the White House.
FBI directors are appointed for a single 10-year term. Christopher Wray is expected to be the eighth director of the FBI.
