US Extra Tariffs: Foreign Ministry: China will fight back at any cost
[]
Here's the latest response from China's Foreign Ministry on China-US trade tensions. Take a listen.
"The US said on Thursday it was considering adding tariffs on 100 billion dollars worth of Chinese Goods. What is China's comment on this?"
LU KANG, SPOKESPERSON CHINA'S FOREIGN MINISTRY "It appears that the Americans are reading the situation incorrectly and has taken the wrong actions. China is fully prepared. Should the U.S. move forward with the 100 billion dollars tariff list, we will fight back without hesitation. We have said this before, the Americans shouldn't bluff.
"What do you think is the nature of this so-called Trade War?"
LU KANG, SPOKESPERSON CHINA'S FOREIGN MINISTRY "We think the U.S. is using unilateralism to fight multilateralism, and using protectionism to fight free trade. If multilateralism and free trade are threatened, globalization will be undermined. And the world's economic recovery will be threatened as well. This matters for China's well-being, and it also matters for the world's well-being. We must resolutely choose to fight when we face an issue of this magnitude.
"If the US side continues to escalate the situation, how will you respond?"
LU KANG, SPOKESPERSON CHINA'S FOREIGN MINISTRY "As the Ministry of Commerce said, we are already fully prepared for the escalation from the US side, and have proposed very detailed countermeasures. We have repeated that we don't want to start trouble, but we will not allow trouble from others. We will resolutely deal with it and do exactly as we say."
