While the EU has reached agreement with the British government on the Brexit, that deal will still be discussed and approved by the British parliament. The Brexit has already brought many uncertainties to many British sectors, and the auto industry is one of them.
MICHAEL HAWES, CHIEF EXECUTIVE THE SOCIETY OF MOTOR MANUFACTURERS AND TRADERS LIMITED, BRITAIN "We have always said we would rather have stayed in the EU, but we are leaving. The danger is if we leave with no deal, it could be catastrophic, because it will undermine the competitiveness of the UK auto industry, over 80% of the cars we produce go abroad, over half of them to the rest of EU, we also take a lot of parts in the EU, totalling integrated into the EU auto industry. But the biggest challenge we face is the uncertainty. If you are going to need the checks at border, that could slow up the trucks coming in. That means given the industry's just in time delivery, it could mean production stops as well, so both of these issued could affect the production for the short and long term."
