It's not only China that the US has targeted. The Trump administration has also imposed tariffs on neighbors and allies, which has led to a global backlash. Omar Khan has more.
President Trump is starting a global trade war. First, America's neighbors. Mexico and Canada are both top providers of US steel.
After the US imposed steel and aluminium tariffs on the two countries, Canada hit back, announcing counter tariffs valued at 12 billion US dollars on American goods. Mexico has also imposed tariffs of 15 to 25 percent on US steel and agricultural goods.
The trade war also hit America's allies, which fought back against the US. The EU has already imposed tariffs on a range of US goods worth 2.8 billion euros to counter tariffs on its steel and aluminium.
The bloc vows to take counter measures after Trump threatened to slap a 20 percent tariff on European car imports.
Japan says it plans to impose retaliatory measures on US goods of over 400 million US dollars, after failing to persuade Washington to exempt it from steel tariffs.
Washington is pushing Seoul to renegotiate their free trade accord, giving US car-makers greater access to the South Korean market.
India is also retaliatory tariffs on US goods, including almonds, apples and some metal products.
Russia is also firing back. Russia says it has raised tariffs ranging from 25 to 40 percent to some road construction equipment, oil and gas equipment.
