Trade Tensions: Chinese vice premier: Beijing ready to protect its interests
[]
We begin with the latest in China-US trade tensions. Chinese Vice Premier Liu He has held a phone conversation with US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, urging efforts to maintain stable bilateral trade ties. Liu He said the US violated international trade rules following the Section 301 probe, and that China is ready to safeguard its national interests.  He also said China hopes both sides will remain rational and work together to keep trade relations stable. Both sides agreed to maintain communication over this issue. The US has requested consultations with China at the World Trade Organization, over alleged unfair technology practices. This is coming right after it imposed fresh tariffs on up to 60-billion US dollars worth of Chinese goods.
