It’s common for people to be a little desperate to get going at the point of returning home after a long time away. But one group of migrant workers setting off on a long journey home from east China’s Nanjing City were spotted on a subway platform allowing hurried commuters to board first.
Having earned a break after completing a tough construction job in an unfamiliar city, the 10 workers reportedly waited a full two hours during the morning rush at Liuzhoudonglu station on Thursday. They have now become social media stars after photos of their selfless wait were posted online.
“The young people are in a hurry to go to work but we’re not,” said one of them, a man surnamed Zhao. “We’d like them to go first.”
Liuzhoudonglu is one of the city’s busiest stations. It is a hub on Line 3, which sees 720,000 daily passengers.
These migrant workers come from Xuancheng in east China’s Anhui Province. They decided to take a long-distance bus home, but needed to get the subway to the bus terminal.
Netizens have been quick to give the thumbs up, with the original photo posts earning more than 30,000 likes.
“Nanjing always welcomes you guys. I hope life treats you well!” said @mizhixiaomantou on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter.
“Strongly suggest Nanjing Metro gives them free passes and spreads such positive energy!” commented another@gordianknot.
Finally grabbed a chance to get on a quiet train, they left their beautiful smile behind.
