Beijingers now can experience authentic Indian music, dance, and literature at a new cultural center. The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre officially OPENED on Tuesday evening, as part of the New Culture Wing of the Indian Embassy in China. The center is named after a key philosopher in the late 19th century.
The center was jointly opened by President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe and the Indian Ambassador to China, Gautam Bambawale. In his keynote address, Dr. Sahasrabuddhe said there were good reasons for naming the cultural center after Swami Vivekananda.
Both Indian and Chinese artists performed at the opening ceremony. Ms. Moumita, who teaches vocal music classes at the cultural center, led the choral segments. While dance teacher Lokeshwari presented folk dances with her students. Music was played on a variety of instruments from various nations along the Ancient Silk Road.
In addition to regular exhibitions, music, dance and yoga classes are held five days a week for free.
