Chongqing municipality, known as "the mountain city" and "a city on rivers", has been viewed through the lenses of some foreign youngsters. Their VIDEOS were screened at Chongqing's Southwest University. The videos reveal beautiful scenes of Chongqing through the eyes of a young generation from different cultures.
"Looking China, Youth Film Project" was launched in 2011. This year, the project has invited 100 international youth from 35 countries to travel China's 11 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. Each participant is expected to film a 10-minute documentary about China under a theme of ecology, biology and what organizers call "lifeology". And for the first time, Chongqing is within the frame of the project. Christian Grobbelaar from South Africa, has shot a short film about Wulong district in the southeast of Chongqing, to depict the residents' lives of the mountainous region.
CHRISTIAN GROBBELAAR PARTICIPANT FROM SOUTH AFRICA "I think I wanted to express that we can be in harmony with nature. We can use nature to create beautiful, beautiful things."
Christian couldn't help but express his excitement about touring and filming in Chongqing.
CHRISTIAN GROBBELAAR PARTICIPANT FROM SOUTH AFRICA "Well, Chongqing is amazing! We had such a great time. It's a little bit cold at the moment, so far it has been amazing, the people had been incredible. And the food is out his world. Some crazy stuff guys are cooking here."
The rest of the young foreign student filmmakers have chosen Dazu Grottos, Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County, riverside villages, and Beibei hot springs, to shoot their short films. The Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture at Beijing Normal University, organizer of the event, hopes to strengthen the trans-cultural exchange among Chinese and foreign youngsters, and raise the influence of Chinese culture in the world.
LUO JUN, DEPUTY DIRECTOR ACADEMY OF INT'L COMMUNICATION OF CHINESE CULTURE BEIJING NORMAL UNIV. "Through these short videos, you'll find these foreign young students are discovering Chongqing, as opposed to our point of view as Chinese. They are discovering Chongqing's culture, and how the city's development achieved harmony through Ecology, Biology and 'Lifeology'."
All the videos will be shown on the internet or in special screenings around the world. Outstanding works will be recommended to international competitions or screenings at international events.
