Three ISIL suicide bombers blew themselves up near east Mosul's Rashan Mosque late on Friday night, according to the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's office, Hismat Rajab. The attack left four people dead and several others injured, after targeting shoppers preparing for the Eid al-Fitr festival.
While East Mosul has been taken from ISIL control, suicide attacks by sleeper cells continue to strike the city, as militants continue to live undetected among liberated civilians.
According to Baghdad-based Sumaria TV, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi claims Mosul is only days away from being under the control of government forces.
Iraqi forces are now focused on retaking the last stronghold of ISIL in the Old City area of western Mosul. Up to 150,000 residents are believed to be trapped in the densely populated Old City, where the UN has described conditions as desperate.
