Earth Hour: 'Lights out' movement observed in over 30 cities across China
[]
Let's now get some background on Earth Hour, a movement organized by the World Wildlife Fund. The event is held annually encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on a specific day towards the end of March. The event started in 2007 in the Australian city of Sydney and since then, has turned into a massive global sustainability movement. More than 50 million people in 35 countries, including China, observe Earth Hour.
And WWF China has brought Earth Hour to more than 30 cities across the country. The organization has called on the Chinese public to make real changes in daily life and this includes observing the Earth Hour low-carbon lifestyle week.
