Changchun Film Festival: Young Chinese filmmakers on Asian culture in international film

Changchun Film Festival kicked off on September 1st and will end on the 8th. Hundreds of films were screened and many low-budget productions made their debut during the festival. CGTN's Ge Ning talked to one of the crews.

Amid the Changchun Film Festival, a low budget film called Only Love Can Do This To Me drew the public attention. As the director, Li Jie shared her view on how young Chinese filmmakers can enhance their multicultural bridging ability.

After having made two films, Li thinks that there is no such thing as Asian movies, Western movies or independent movies; the only thing that matters is good story-telling.

However, having always wanted to be a producer, the leading actress Lucia Pang says being an actress in the film was a lovely coincidence.

Growing up in Australia, Lucia Pang said she was very much exposed to western films and culture, so it was hard to find someone on the screen that she could connect with ethnically.

With the all Asian casted Hollywood hit Crazy Rich Asians getting a big success, Lucia seems to be very optimistic about the trend of having more Asian faces in the international film market.

One of the main topics of the Changchun Film Festival is to encourage young Chinese filmmakers to join the industry. With that in mind, we hope to see more Asian faces going into the international film industry. Ge Ning, CGTN, Changchun City, Jilin Province.
