In Fuzhou, southeast China's Fujian Province, olive juice is a much sought-after refreshment. Ganlanzhi (橄榄汁) – literally, olive juice – is cloudy and light yellowish-green in color, however it is not made of olives, despite the name of the beverage and the uncanny resemblance between the fruit and Italian green olives. Grown there since the Tang Dynasty (618-907), it was even approved as a trademark with geographic indication by China in 2010.
