At a press conference, Premier Li Keqiang said China was totally committed to its opening-up policy, and the country was looking especially at cutting tariffs on imported goods that would improve people's livelihoods and health.
LI KEQIANG CHINESE PREMIER "Opening up is a basic state policy. If there's one thing that's going to be different from the past, it will be that China will open even wider. With our economy so integrated with the world's, closing our door would only block China's own way. We aim to further bring down overall tariffs across the importing process, with rates for important day-to-day consumer goods slashed. We also plan to phase in zero tariffs for drugs, especially the much-needed ones to fight cancer. I also want to emphasize that opening up needs to be a two-way track, just as it takes paddling on both sides for a boat to move forward. Otherwise it may just keep spinning around at the same place."
