'Spallation Neutron Source': China announces construction of world's fourth SNS
[]
The Chinese Academy of Science has announced the completion of China's first spallation neutron source. The 380-million-dollar SNS is in Guangdong Province, and is the largest scientific facility in China. Scientists use it to fire proton pulses to cause neutrons to be produced by a process called spallation. The neutrons are used for researchers across a broad range of disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, materials science and biology. This makes China the fourth country in the world to have an SNS.
