This public art project, Interloop, coincides with major renovations to the busy station, runs more than 165 feet in length, connecting both two ends of the building in a twisting and swooping accordion made of 244 wooden treads from the original wooden escalator stairs, weighing more than 5.5 tons. /VCG Photo

Created by local artist Chris Fox, it took about six months to come up with a design that conformed to the site’s constraints, and about 12 weeks to construct it. “The artwork explores the idea that people are stationary on an escalator whilst also travelling, allowing for a moment of pause that occurs mid-motion,” explains the artist on his website. /VCG Photo
