Whether or not you're a flower lover, the Beijing International Horticultural Expo could be just the place for you. During China's four-day public holiday, an influx of visitors is expected, and the vast majority will be there with smartphones in hand. And thanks to some handy new apps, anyone can become a flower expert, quickly. CGTN's Yang Chengxi explains
The horticulture expo offers visitors a great spectacle, but nevertheless it is about flowers.
YANG CHENGXI BEIJING "If you're like me and have quite limited knowledge on plants in general, you might find the expo a bit confusing because this and this look quite similar to me."
But fortunately there are ways to help you become an informed visitor. All you have to do is to look closely. Not with your eyes but your smart phones.
"There are many apps through which you can scan the flowers and the apps will tell you all about them."
The app tells me that this is Hall's Crab, a tree up to 5 meters tall and is considered to be a native tree of China.
"This app is called Picture This. It was developed by a Chinese company and is one of the many apps that use image pattern recognition to identify plants."
Wax Begonia, symbol of a fanciful nature, and it can be planted in flowerbeds or pots for indoor display. Pretty neat.
Purple Foxglove, symbol of lies and dishonesty, and is toxic? Better steer clear of that.
The expo showcases over 12 hundred species of plants. Assistance like this could come in handy.
