Traveling to resorts instead of uniting at home -- that's the way more and more Chinese families are choosing to spend the holiday.
For the past five years, trips made during the Chinese New Year "Golden Week" holiday have seen a steady growth of 12 percent year-on-year, creating tourism revenue of more than 4-hundred billion yuan last year, almost four times that of 2013. As for "Golden Week" destinations, some people travel north to go skiing or enjoy ice sculptures. More Chinese choose to go south to escape the cold, which explains why most of the top 10 popular destinations are located in the south. Meanwhile, the popularity of overseas travel also has seen a rise. Chinese tourists made 6.15 million overseas trips during last year's "Golden Week". The number is expected to hit 6.5 million this year. Top 10 destinations vary from neighboring countries in Asia, to US, France and Australia.
