Taiwan's export orders hit a record high in September on the back of the global economic recovery and strong demand for electronic devices, according to data released by the island's economic authority Friday.
Export orders for the month stood at 45.92 billion US dollars, up 6.9 percent year-on-year, marking the 14th consecutive month of growth.
Orders for all of the region's seven major products registered a yearly increase in September, with orders for machinery, chemicals, rubber and metal products registering double-digit growth.
The authority's statistics show that the United States was Taiwan's biggest buyer in September, followed by the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong combined, which bought a record high of 11.15 billion US dollars worth of products from Taiwan.
The island's export orders are expected to continue to grow in the near future as holiday shopping will boost the demand for electronics and the recovering global economy as well as rising raw material prices will lift commodity sales.
