This year's athletics World Championships will not only be about medals and glory, they'll also have a humanitarian touch. Fresh from their Olympic debut last year, the Refugee Team will also feature at the IAAF event in London next month. The runners have been shaping up in Kenya, and are ready to take on the world.
John Anzrah, the coach of the refugee athletics team, told CGTN’s Saddique Shaban that the athletes have greatly improved since Rio. He believes that they will post very good times in London next month.
Last year, the refugee Olympics team got a global standing ovation when they lined up at the Rio Olympic Games. The UN refugee agency says the team embodies a changing perception about refugees.
Although none of the athletes claimed a medal in Rio, the experience renewed their determination to make an impact in the future. And as the Kenyans prepare to defend the world title in London, the refugees have made a good impression on their hosts.
