Hot air balloons take flight at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in the US state of New Mexico as seen on Friday.
The event is powered by the perfect October climate, and a phenomenon called the "Albuquerque Box," a combination of weather patterns and geographic landscape which allows balloonists to control and even retrace their adventure.
The nine-day Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which runs from October 7 to 15 this year, is the world's largest hot air balloon festival. The annual event, now in its 46th year, has attracted hundreds of balloon pilots and tens of thousands of spectators from around the world.
In the wake of the mass shooting in Las Vegas on October 1, security has been stepped up at the event.
