German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday that she hopes next week's G20 summit, which she will host in the city of Hamburg, will find in favor of free markets and against protectionism.
Merkel also reiterated the European Union's commitment to the 2015 Paris climate agreement, following US President Donald Trump's move to withdraw his country from the landmark accord.
She called the climate deal "irreversible and non-negotiable", whilst stressing that the EU is fully prepared for challenging Brexit negotiations, vowing that the remaining members of the bloc will design their own future.
