Food safety

As one of the most basic needs, food never fades from the table nor from people’s minds. It’s not the variety that people are looking for. Rather, it’s the safety of food that is becoming an issue that more and more people care about.
“I think our country should make more effort to supervising food safety, and impose stricter punishments on violations in this sector to restore people's confidence in food safety,” said Gao Chao, resident in Guangzhou.

Legal environment

The people's expectations for a legal nation are stronger than ever. The attention given to strict governance is especially noticeable. What’s more, in November 2017, China’s Ministry of Justice urged police to educate the public on law, making more efforts to fill the gaps in the public’s legal awareness.
“I'm a lawyer. I hope we can make progress in law enforcement and create a better legal environment in the country,” said Li Yunping, resident in Guangzhou.

Rural revitalization & western development

China’s economy has expanded drastically during the previous year. However, the gap between urban and rural areas (including distant areas) has also been expanded rather than narrowed down. Specifically, imbalanced development has appeared in education, public goods, employment, medical insurance and the living standards of residents.
“People in rural and urban areas both deserve a better and happier life,” said Deng Wenjian, resident in Guangzhou.
“I am from Ningxia. I hope the government will carry out more favorable policies to support the development of the western areas, lifting more people out of poverty there so that they can be better off,” said Chen Guixing.

Technological innovation

China continues to close the gap with developed countries in the international race for scientific and technological supremacy. Gene therapy, artificial intelligence (AI) and renewable energy cars have become top search on most people’s mobile devices.
Some residents are already thinking about purchasing a car that runs on renewable energy.
“I thought about switching to one, but in the entire neighborhood where I live, there are no charging facilities. I don’t know if there will be policies about this." said Yuan Yongsheng, a concerned Henan resident.
“I hope to see more Chinese-designed and manufactured cars on the road in different countries when we travel around the world,” said Fan Yu from Guangzhou.
