China’s ministry of commerce has in response to Trump’s State of the Union address said that China tends to view the US as a partner rather than a rival and that it hopes the US will refrain from politicizing trade.

The spokesman of Chinese Ministry of Commerce Gao Feng in reference to views that China is a rival that challenges America’s interests, economy and values, said “fair trade” should be a trade in line with international regulations, not the kind that puts the standards and interests of one nation above internationally-accepted rules.
“Trade should not be viewed as a ‘zero sum game,’ he told a regular briefing on Thursday.
He added that China and Britain plan to seal business deals worth over 9 billion pounds in finance, agriculture, science and technology, during British Prime Minister Theresa May's visit.
Gao said among the accomplishments made, the two nations will jointly set up industrial parks, with one in the newly-established economic zone about 100 kilometers southwest of Beijing dedicated to fintech, and another tech and innovation park in Qingdao.
He also provided updates on the Committee of China-UK Entrepreneurs.
“The committee consists of representatives from 15 Chinese and 16 British enterprises. We believe the committee will offer to consult insight for both governments in strengthening economic and trade cooperation and play an important role in facilitating pragmatic cooperation between businesses,” said Gao.
