Hong Kong is famous as a shopper’s paradise, and spending by tourists is an important component of the region’s economy. Last year visitors spent over 60 percent of their travel budget on shopping. The biggest source of tourists is the Chinese mainland, and those visitors come ready to spend.  
CGTN spoke with Michael Zakkour, vice president of China/Asia Pacific Practice, Tompkins International about the future of Hong Kong’s retail sector and its significance to Hong Kong’s economy.
