Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Barcelona to protest the Spanish national police, two days after massive clashes between officers and voters marred Sunday's Catalonia independence referendum. The central government had sought to obstruct the vote, which it branded as “illegal” and “invalid”. Police officers used batons and rubber bullets to prevent voters from casting their ballots, injuring more than 890 people, according to Catalan authorities. Over 20 officers were also wounded in the confrontations.
