To mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Australia and China, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has just performed to a packed house at Beijing's National Center for Performing Arts.
Chief conductor and artistic director David Robertson amazed audience members with his unique musical style.
In a stellar finale to their week-long China tour, Robertson and the SSO were joined by Japanese-born American violinist Midori for a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. The program also features Ligeti’s Romanian Concerto and Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5.

Founded in 1932, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra has evolved into one of the world’s finest musical ensembles.
Residing at the iconic Sydney Opera House, the SSO also performs in venues throughout Sydney and regional New South Wales, and tours internationally to Europe, Asia and the US.
Before flying to Beijing, the SSO performed at Shanghai Symphony Hall. The China tour has also seen the orchestra engage in other outreach activities.
This is the fifth time the SSO has toured China. Over the past eight years, the iconic Australian institution has built up a strong profile in the country.
As one of the cultural exchange activities to mark the 45th anniversary of China-Australia diplomatic ties, the concerts are believed to further cement some of the long-lasting friendships the orchestra has made in China.
