We begin in Beijing, and more evidence of diplomatic progress between Asia's two biggest economies, China and Japan. Their high-level economic dialogue today involved a much bigger Japanese delegation than last year, and there are talks of another summit between their leaders later this year. CGTN's Sun Ye has the report.
"Back on track" and ready for more.
Addressing their often-fraught, but fast-warming partnership, the foreign ministers of China and Japan put their differences aside to hail its potential.
WANG YI CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTER "China and Japan are back on track for new development. In terms of our economic activities, we are seeing deeper, more vibrant and stronger ties, in many more fields now."
Japan came to Beijing prepared. Six members of its cabinet were at the table and they sat opposite China's commerce minister, and officials from the departments of finance and agriculture, as well as the state economic planner.
From trade to tourism, they touched on a wide variety of issues whilst also laying the groundwork for a possible leaders' summit later this year.
TARO KONO JAPANESE FOREIGN MINISTER "We are exchanging ideas on the possible visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping later this year. We hope to make this happen."
SUN YE BEIJING "The high-level economic dialogue was held in China for the first time in nearly a decade, further signaling improving ties."
Meanwhile, the two foreign ministers also called on young people to join their special friendship mission.
Together, they launched the "China-Japan Youth Exchange Promotion Year" on Sunday. The program promises 30,000 youth exchanges between the two countries over the next 5 years.
