The spectacular tidal bore attracted about 30,000 visitors to Laoyancang, the best view point for the gigantic waves. The bore is the strongest on the 18th day of the eighth month on the Chinese lunar calendar, which was on October 7 this year. The tidal bore flows backwards from the lower to upper reaches. The head of the tide soared forward at a height of 1.15 meters. Many T-shaped barriers are dotted on the banks of the river to reduce the massive force of the bore, and protect nearby villages and farmlands. The bore is a natural phenomenon known for its power and charm caused by the gravitational pull from the Moon.
