Heavy rainstorms lash C China's Hunan Province

Heavy rainstorms drenched central China over the weekend, with the provinces of Hunan, Jiangxi, Hubei, Anhui and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region most affected.
Prolonged rainfall inundated tributaries of the Yangtze and Pearl rivers, flooding many parts of Hunan, Guangxi and Guizhou in the process.
Continuous and heavy rain poured down on central China's Hunan Province since June 22. Residents were evacuated through windows, down ladders, and onto boats.
Rescuers worked round the clock to reach those trapped and were relocating residents, bringing them daily supplies, and safeguarding valuables.
Authorities used heavy sandbags to try to secure the local dikes which were overcome by the rain.
Meanwhile, evacuated residents are keen to get back to their ordinary lives, assess the damage and get on with rebuilding their communities.
