At the ASEAN gathering in Manila, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said he believed Washington and Moscow could find a way to ease tensions.
Tillerson told reporters it would not be useful to cut ties over the single issue of suspected Russian meddling in the US presidential election.
On Sunday, Tillerson met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Manila. The two discussed a wide range of issues, from cyber security to the DPRK nuclear program and the Ukraine Crisis.
After the meeting, Lavrov told reporters Washington is ready to continue speaking with Moscow, despite the tensions from new sanctions signed into law by US President Donald Trump.
