BRICS leaders will come together in July for the 10th BRICS summit in South Africa. The aim is to enhance trade and co-operation, improve development and build stronger economies. A new BRICS institute has been launched in South Africa to ensure that everyone is getting access to the opportunities this group presents. Sumitra Nydoo has the details.
The new BRICS Institute will serve as an educational tool bridging academics and business to leverage opportunities within the five nations. The Institute will be run by the Regenesys Business School in South Africa. But courses will be delivered in each of the five countries. Classes will cover business, culture and leadership development.
JULIAN NAIDOO HEAD, BRICS INSTITUTE "We're looking at the BRICS Institute to be a very dynamic institute that is academically based, however is able to act as a practical catalyst to be able to convert economic activities and opportunities between the different countries, to look at how we harness the capabilities of executives and leaders in the different countries so that they are able to engage in economic opportunities in a very structured manner. So, they'll be exposed to cutting edge technologies especially linked to the fourth industrial revolution. But be able to put them in a position where there's very intensive and enhanced matchmaking."
The BRICS Institute will assist in creating a greater understanding of each in its courses. It will also serve a data resource centre making information on each of the countries easily available.
JULIAN NAIDOO HEAD, BRICS INSTITUTE "So, if you're in the telecoms sector, we'll be able to give you a lot of insight into what the competitor analysis looks like, what are the penetration ratios for your sector. We'll be able to provide you a very detailed insight into the regulatory environment, how to overcome specific regulatory hurdles and the whole competitive framework."
SUMITRA NYDOO JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA "It's almost like a student exchange programme, only targeting government officials, executives and big business. The BRICS Institute will run its first classes in India later this year. A typical course will run over three weeks and will cost in the region of $12,000. Sumitra Nydoo, CGTN, JHB, South Africa."
