China's top political advisory body elects new leadership

The fourth plenary meeting of the first session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held in Beijing on Wednesday, with a new leadership elected including chairperson, vice-chairpersons, secretary-general and Standing Committee members.
Wang Yang was elected chairman of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC, the top political advisory body.
Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the 12th CPPCC National Committee, shook hands with Wang amid warm applause from more than 2,100 members of the CPPCC National Committee, after the election result was announced.
At the Wednesday's meeting, 24 people were elected vice chairpersons of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC. They are Zhang Qingli, Liu Qibao, Pagbalha Geleg Namgyai (ethnic Tibetan), Tung Chee-hwa, Wan Gang (China Zhi Gong Party), Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Lu Zhangong, Wang Zhengwei (ethnic Hui), Ma Biao (ethnic Zhuang), Chen Xiaoguang, Leung Chun-ying, Xia Baolong, Yang Chuantang, Li Bin (female), Bater (ethnic Mongolian), Wang Yongqing, He Lifeng, Su Hui (female), Zheng Jianbang, Gu Shengzu, Liu Xincheng, He Wei, Shao Hong, Gao Yunlong.
Xia Baolong was elected secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, and a total of 300 Standing Committee members were also elected.
The CPPCC is an important organ for multiparty cooperation and political consultation led by the Communist Party of China.
The first session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee is set to close on Thursday morning.
