Iranians have celebrated the 39th anniversary of the Islamic revolution victory. In Tehran, people chanted anti-US slogans during a huge rally. President Hassan Rouhani said it was a firm response to US plots, referring to widespread protests across the country that broke out at the end of 2017.
HASSAN ROUHANI IRANIAN PRESIDENT "We witnessed the defeat of the United States last year. The Americans wanted to interfere in our internal affairs, but our people defeated all the plots by the United States through solidarity and unity."
Hundreds of thousands attended the rally in the capital, carrying images of the late founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, and his successor, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian officials blame foreign support over the massive 2017 protests, which drew US sanctions. President Rouhani also warned the US not to undermine the nuclear deal.
