A Gerhard Richter exhibition has opened at the Museum Barberini in the German city of Potsdam. It focuses on works by the renowned painter which reveal his abstract strategies and techniques. Take a look.
Abstract works by the world-famous German painter are now on display at the Museum Barberini, bringing together seven decades of his work. For Gerhard Richter it might feel like a reunion with old acquaintances. The 86-year-old, who was born in Dresden and now lives in Cologne, explained his artistic style.
GERHARD RICHTER ARTIST "The proportions have to be right. I noticed this during the making of the cathedral window for the Cologne cathedral. How long it took me to get the size of the squares right, so that coincidence appears as if everything is great."
The head of the Gerhard-Richter-archive in Dresden said that even though his works are very complex, they are easy to understand, Dietmar Elger helped to curate the exhibition with Museum Barberini.
DIETMAR ELGER CURATOR "It's very easy to approach these works even if they are very complex and especially the abstract works, the colourful abstract works, you can look at them all over again over years and see different things. It will never get boring."
The exhibition "Abstraction" shows more than 90 of Richter's works, some of them on display for the first time and it will run until October 21.
