The US is cracking down on companies and people that Washington says are supporting the nuclear ambitions of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). The Treasury Department has slapped sanctions on more than a dozen Chinese and Russian companies. The Justice Department is seeking millions of dollars from businesses that allegedly laundered money for Pyongyang.
The US Treasury department is blocking some 10 companies and six people from using the US financial system. Washington says each helped advance Pyongyang's illegal nuclear or ballistic missile programs.
Beijing supported the unanimous Security Council vote in favor of additional sanctions against the DPRK. Beijing has begun implementing the UN Security Council sanctions.
