A total of 143 suspects in a cross-border telecom scam were brought back to China from Indonesia by air on Thursday.
The suspects, escorted by police, landed at the airports in northern China's Tianjin Municipality and Chengdu, southwestern China's Sichuan Province.
With these arrests, over 200 cases of cross-border telecom fraud involving over 20 million yuan have been resolved.
Public security authorities said this year telecom scams emerged in many areas in China, with suspects pretending to be public safety agents, involving a large amount of money and causing bad social influence. Interrogation led police to a gang of accomplices in Indonesia.
In June, teams of police officers from Tianjin Municipality, Sichuan and other provinces were sent to Indonesia to find out dens and suspects.
On July 29, Chinese police, with the help of Indonesian police, cracked down five dens in Jakarta and Bali, arresting 153 suspects. With ten of the suspects detained for further investigation by Indonesian police, 143 suspects were brought back to China.
