China's self-developed C919 jet has successfully completed its second test flight, 146 days after the plane made its maiden voyage, the Commercial Aircraft Corp of China (COMAC) said on Thursday.
Aircraft 101, the prototype of the C919, took off from Shanghai Pudong International Airport at around 07:20 a.m. BJT on Thursday to Nantong in east China's Jiangsu Province via Chongming district in Shanghai.
The aircraft returned to the airport at around 10:09 a.m. BJT.
The aircraft reached an altitude of 10,000 feet (roughly 3,048 meters) during the flight, which took 166 minutes — twice as long as its 80-minute maiden flight on May 5.
The C919 is China’s first domestically developed narrow-body aircraft with a seating capacity of 168 passengers. Its maximum flying range exceeds 5,500 kilometers.
The aircraft is a symbol of China's ambitions to enter the global jet market estimated to be worth 2 trillion US dollars over the next 20 years.
The C919 has so far received 730 orders, according to COMAC.
