Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has admitted to mistakes in handling user data, and has vowed to take steps to better protect user privacy.
In a public statement after days of silence, Zuckerberg told Facebook users the firm had, in his words, "a responsibility to protect your data." He added that if the firm didn't, "we don't deserve you." He promised Facebook will investigate every application that has accessed large amounts of data, and do full forensic audits if anything looks suspicious. Zuckerberg apologized for what he described as a "breach of trust."
He also said he's sure someone is trying to meddle in elections using Facebook right now. The social media giant is under fire after claims British firm Cambridge Analytica harvested information from 50 million users without authorization. The company is believed to have links to Donald Trump's 2016 campaign.
