Britain's Prince William met with Palestinian leaders while visiting the Middle East. Although he's the first royal to visit both Israel and the Palestinian territories, few expect any historic breakthrough out of this trip. CGTN's Stephanie Freid reports from Tel Aviv.
To get to his West Bank meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Prince William sort of experienced going through Israeli checkpoints Palestinians routinely navigate.
In Ramallah - as in Jerusalem - the Prince spoke of the monarchy's support for Palestinian-Israeli peace.
PRINCE WILLIAM DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE "Hoping that peace in the area can be achieved so i am hoping and very much looking forward to absorbing and understanding the different issues, the different cultures, the different religions."
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed gratitude while revealing frustration.
MAHMOUD ABBAS PALESTINIAN PRESIDENT "We are always in need for the support of the British people of our just cause, which has been taking a long time, yet is still not solved."
In addition to meeting President Abbas, Prince William met with Israel's prime minister and president.
BENJAMIN NATANYAHU ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER "Welcome to the Israel a great historic visit , the whole people of Israel are excited."
Locally, this has been a highly anticipated visit but there aren't expectations for any political breakthroughs.
STEPHANIE FREID TEL AVIV "So what are the expectations for this visit? This is about meeting, greeting, shaking hands and lots of foto opps."
He stopped at key Christian, Muslim and Jewish holy sites.
And kicked balls around with young Jewish and Arab football players and a volleyball team. Crowds hoping to catch a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse of royalty gathered at every stop.
The Prince wraps up his visit to the region on Thursday. SF, CGTN, TEL AVIV.
