CGTN sweeps 2018 New York Festivals with 18 awards

China Global Television Network (CGTN) has once again showcased its capability and proficiency as a world leading international broadcaster by winning 18 awards in this year’s New York Festivals International Television and Film Awards held in Las Vegas on April 10. 
Competing with over 10,000 productions and works submitted by televisions and media outlets from more than 50 countries, CGTN Beijing headquarters, and CGTN America bagged five silver medals, eight bronze medals, and five Finalist Certificates.

"Casualties of Honor" by Assignment Asia, a gripping documentary on honor killings in Pakistan, were awarded a Silver World Medal. "Children of the War," also by Assignment Asia, which tells the stories of children caught in the Philippines' war on drugs, took home a Bronze World Medal. "My New Year" by Rediscovering China, a touching piece about a blind Tibetan teacher, received a Silver World Medal.
It is the third year in a row that Assignment Asia has entered and won awards from the New York Festivals. And Rediscovering China, as a program bringing in-depth reports on the major issues in China, is for the first time honored with the festival's award, showing that CGTN’s programs and its global presence are now being recognized by the industry worldwide.

“Brazilian Mechanic Lights Up the World with a Powerful Invention” by CGTN America, which tells a story about Brazilian mechanic Alfredo Moser helping the world see a whole new light, won a bronze medal for “Climate Change & Sustainability” issued by United Nations and also receive a silver medal with New York Festivals. China Unknown, a digital program featuring unique glimpses at all things in China, won a silver medal.

Launched on December 31, 2016, CGTN “consolidates its cultural confidence, upholds the principle that news coverage is its foundation, keeps close to the audiences in an all-round fashion, and makes use of media convergence" so as to provide accurate, timely, objective news and information service as well as diverse and balanced ideas. 
Apart from the awards honored by 2018 New York Festivals, CGTN’s programs are well recognized globally and have also won many top accolades from other global institutions and academies.

In 2017, Assignment Asia won a gold and a silver medal at last year’s New York Festivals. This year CGTN America won 15 awards in the White House News Photographers Association’s 2018 “Eyes of History Contest," making CGTN the only media from Asia among the top three winners.

As one of the biggest international competitions in the worldwide film and television industry, New York Festivals honors content in all lengths and forms from over 50 countries. In collaboration with the United Nations Department of Public Information, New York Festivals established the United Nations Awards in 1990 to honor programs and advertising that best exemplifies the aims and ideals of the United Nations, and has enjoyed a high status in the global media industry.
