Former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont says he hopes to live in Belgium once legal proceedings are concluded. And he intends to remain in Berlin until the end of the process. He also calls on the Spanish government to "respect democracy" and recognise the Catalan leaders as "legitimate representatives".
It comes one day after a German judge released him on bail and rejected Spain's request to have the former Catalan leader extradited on Friday. Madrid is seeking the extradition of Puigdemont for rebellion and misuse of public funds in organizing an unauthorized referendum on Catalonia's independence from Spain last year.
