Iranian president Hassan Rouhani spoke with Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, by phone on Sunday, stressing that the Iranian government will strengthen bilateral communication and cooperation with Doha to establish an improved relationship, Iranian national television reported.
He said that Tehran’s policy was to further develop diplomatic ties with Doha, which could benefit all Gulf countries.
Earlier this month, eight countries severed diplomatic ties with Qatar amid allegations that Doha supported terrorist groups.
Since then, both Turkey and Iran have offered to supply aid to Qatar.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and Bahrain delivered a "list of requirements" to Qatar via Kuwait on Friday as preconditions to the restoration of diplomatic relations.
The requirements included closing the broadcaster al-Jazeera, scaling back cooperation with Iran and removing Turkish troops from Qatar.
Doha has been given 10 days to comply with the demands.
