Several countries including China and the United States have backed a set of guidelines to manage unexpected encounters between military aircraft. The world's two biggest economies as well as Australia, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia and South Korea tentatively joined the agreement, initially adopted on Friday by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN. The air code has been called the first multilateral deal of its kind. At the Fifth ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus in Singapore, the countries at the meeting also reaffirmed their support to fight terrorism through capacity-building and information sharing.
