US President Donald Trump has phoned the governor of Guam, offering words of assurance that all residents of the Pacific Island are safe after Pyongyang threatened of firing missiles targeted on the US territory.
"So look governor, I just want to let you know we're with you a 1,000 percent,” Trump told Guam Governor Eddie Baza Calvo on the phone.
“We'll see how it all works out, but you're not going to have a problem."
The level of rhetoric between Trump and the DPRK has skyrocketed in recent days, after the US president said Pyongyang should be “very, very nervous” if it carries on with its threats. The DPRK had threatened by saying it is planning to firie four intermediate-range missiles targeting waters off Guam.
Guam is home to a US air base, a Navy installation and a Coast Guard group. It also has roughly 6,000 US military personnel stationed.
