South Korea's national security adviser is in Russia looking to Moscow for help to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Chung Eui-yong said Russia has played a "constructive role" in getting the DPRK to hold discussions with South Korea and the US. Lucy Taylor reports.
LUCY TAYLOR MOSCOW "South Korea's Chung Eui-yong arrived in Moscow on Tuesday looking for support, and it appears he may have found it. The National Security Office head is also here to update Russian officials about the latest developments on the Korean Peninsula."
Chung was greeted in Moscow by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who said the Korean discussions were at the center of the world's attention. He said the international community needs to show a solid front.
SERGEY LAVROV RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER "Russia has consistently advocated a reduction in tensions, a shift from confrontational rhetoric to concrete ways of seeking mutually acceptable ways of resolving (matters). In this regard, your assessment of the situation will be very valuable for us."
LUCY TAYLOR MOSCOW "We don't know yet the exact dates, location and other details of the planned summit between the U.S. and the DPRK. But we've been told to expect a meeting between the Korean leaders sometime in April and one between Presidents Kim and Trump before the end of May. Lucy Taylor, CGTN, Moscow."
