China's volleyball team will be back on the court this evening, as they host Pool 12 in the Women's Nations League. Chief coach Lang Ping's ladies will go up against Argentina in the first of their three matches in Hong Kong. With a record of three wins and three defeats after the opening two weeks of the competition in Ningbo and Macao, the Olympic gold medalists will receive a boost from the return of captain Zhu Ting.
The outside hitter helped Turkish club VakifBank Istanbul win their second straight European Champions League title last month, despite injuring her right leg in the semi-finals. She's been recovering since coming back to China, but did not appear in the squad's first six contests in the Nations League. Lang hopes the skipper's return this week will set an example for the younger players on the roster, as they continue to hone their skills and gain experience. After tonight's match against the Argentines, the PRC will face Japan tomorrow, and Italy on Thursday.
LANG PING CHINA CHIEF COACH "As the captain, Zhu Ting will contribute to our performance with her attacking skills, but I think that, in addition to doing well for herself, she should also undertake more responsibilities, especially when the team faces difficulties during matches. She is also highly self-displined in her daily training, which in my eyes, is really a good example for all of the younger players."
ZHU TING CHINA CAPTAIN "I have watched the team's performance in the previous matches, and I think every player has done her best. As for me, I have returned to my normal fitness level during training, so in regard to my appearances in our upcoming matches, that will depend on the coach's plans."
