A 15-year-old boy attacked a teacher with an ax before opening fire on fellow students with an air gun and threw smoke grenades at a school near Moscow, injuring at least four people, Russian police have said.
The incident happened in a school in Ivanteyevka, 20 kilometers from the Russian capital.
“A 15-year-old student attacked an IT teacher with a kitchen ax and hit her on the head. Then the teenager started detonating homemade firecrackers and shooting with an air gun,” the Russian prosecutor general said in a statement.
“At least four people have been injured, including three children and one teacher,” news agency TASS reported, citing the police press office.
The teenager has been detained and is currently being questioned, a local branch of the Russian Investigative Committee said.
Authorities are now attempting to determine the motive behind the attack, the statement added.
