China's first unmanned surface vehicle contest started in Shanghai on Tuesday, attracting seven teams from research institutes across the country. Taking part in the three-day event are unmanned ships for civil, commercial and other purposes. They are all able to cruise on designed courses from zigzag to linear routes, automatically dodge obstacles and identify targets. The vehicles are stipulated to sail smoothly while fulfilling their set missions.
