China hopes the international community can understand and support all the efforts of Myanmar government to achieve peace and national reconciliation in the country, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said on Tuesday.

Lu made the remark at a daily press conference when asked about Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi’s first address to the nation on Rohingya crisis.

“We hope the speech can enhance the international community’s understanding [of] the situation in Myanmar and as its neighbor," Lu continues, “China will continuously provide needed assistance in order to help Myanmar protect its stability and development.”

Aung San Suu Kyi on Tuesday gave her first public address to the nation since attacks by Rohingya Muslim insurgents last month, condemning rights abuses and human rights violations.

Nearly 400,000 Rohingya refugees have fled to Bangladesh since the violence broke out on August 25.
